Description
Lal Qilla Majestic Basmati Rice 1121 Aged Biryani Rice · 1kg · Product of India Majestic is the everyday face of one of India’s oldest basmati names — a 1121 long-grain rice that’s aged before it ever reaches a shelf, so it cooks up with a nutty aroma and grains that stretch out long and fluffy rather than clumping. It’s built for biryani and pulao, but honestly holds its own for a plain side of rice too. 🏯 The Story Behind the Name The brand traces back to a wholesale grain shop in Amritsar in 1901, started by S. Amar Singh. It stayed a regional trading business until the early 1950s, when his son Kartar Singh pushed the family into milling and packaging their own basmati under a red-fort emblem — sold alongside a sister line marked with a gold fort. Rice lovers started calling the red-emblem rice “Lal Qilla,” and the name stuck. Four generations on, the company still mills basmati grown in the Himalayan foothills across Punjab, Haryana and Jammu & Kashmir, ages it for roughly two years, and ships it out to dozens of countries. 🌾 Built for Biryani The 1121 variety is known for its extra length — grains elongate dramatically once cooked without turning sticky, which is exactly what a good biryani or pulao needs. ⏳ Aged, Not Rushed Ageing draws down the moisture and sharpens the aroma — the difference between rice that just fills a plate and rice you can smell across the room. 👩🍳 How to Cook It • Rinse the rice 2–3 times until the water runs mostly clear, then soak for 20–30 minutes. • Drain and add to a pot with water at roughly a 1:1.5 rice-to-water ratio. • Bring to a boil, then cover and simmer on low heat for about 12–15 minutes. • Turn off the heat and let it rest, covered, for 5 minutes before fluffing with a fork. ❓ FAQ Q: Is this the right rice for biryani? A: Yes — the long, aged grains are exactly the type biryani recipes call for, since they stay separate and elongate nicely instead of clumping or turning mushy. There’s a whole lineup of Lal Qilla rice to browse too. 🏪 JB Halal Food — Shinjuku, Tokyo
